Engagement
The story of our engagement is a simple one — no fanfare, no bells and whistles. Just the two of us. And that’s exactly how I like it.
Sure, I used to dream about elaborate plans, hidden photographers and a path of rose petals. But there’s also something about a moment shared exclusively between two people who love each other, a milestone we chose to embark on, that is decided on purely by the both of us, without anyone watching.
He took me out on a walk and led me to this quiet little corner of our local neighbourhood, a gorgeous spot with a view of the beach. We sat there for a bit, enjoying each other’s company. And then he popped the question.
I’m so thankful for the way that he proposed. That’s more reflective of our relationship as well. We don’t always go on fancy dates and get all dolled up, that’s just not who we are (though I love a good night out in the town once in a while). But more often than not if we find ourselves with time to spare, we like to relax and put on a movie, or take our picnic mat to the beach and have a good long chat.
Throughout our relationship he has taught me to enjoy the simple things in life — the fresh breeze, the sand between your toes, how every sunrise and sunset is different. To be adventurous, eager to try new things, and to get out of my comfort zone. He’s taught me to soak in the moment for what it is, and not focus so much on documenting it and getting the perfect shot ‘for the gram.’ That is, after all, what makes up most of life. Huge milestones are few and far between, but it’s finding joy in the moments that seem mundane that make life worthwhile. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with someone who sees life in this way.
